Fancy Wonky Cross - the Big Reveal

Well the contestants all lined up and did their thing, the winners were chosen (doesn't make sense, see previous post) and the quilt was made.

Now for the big reveal - and the big case of bad nerves.  As a designer you conceive of a wonderful idea (you hope), experience the excitement of playing with the delicious fabrics you have chosen, have a marvelous time spending hours sewing (remembering towards the end that, yes, you do like sewing!!), taking photos that please you, and spending more hours typing up the pattern.  Now your baby is ready to be launched into the world (well the quilting/blogging world anyway!). And you suffer a massive sense of stage fright!  Because I know I am among Friends here I can admit to 'designer's vulnerability'.  You put so much of your creativity into your designs hoping that others see something in them to be admired - or maybe liked a little! What if it flops, what if they hate it, what if ....

But nothing ventured nothing gained, and many more cliches I won't bore you with, so here goes - presenting...

Fancy Wonky Cross

The delicious fabric I 'played' with was the entire range of Flea Market Fancy - New Legacy Reprint by Denyse Schmidt.

The centre of the quilt is composed of wonky blocks. The first idea I had for this quilt was the combination of old and new - the retro/vintage look of the fabrics combined with the 'off kilter' look for the blocks that is popping up everywhere lately.  I had real fun doing the wonky bit as you don't have to be too exact with the angle of  'wonkiness'.  A little bit of inaccuracy freedom!

The Little Cross block is sewn in the traditional manner - back to accurate piecing. They complement and highlight the wonkiness of the main blocks.

I have used the fabrics I consider to be the stars of the range, namely the yellow, grey and aqua florals in the centre of the quilt (with the help of a few appropriate supporting cast members).  The remaining fabrics have taken up their positions around the edge of the quilt making a colourful ensemble border.

So there it is - my new offering to the quilting world!  If you are interested in the pattern it can be found in my Etsy store or my Craftsy store.

Now onto the next design ..... another in my Rainbow Quilts series - Rainbow Steps.

Until next time, happy quilting, knitting, sewing, crafting ....
